The WC 2006 final - France vs Italy - has to be one of the most interesting finals i've ever seen! It managed to bring out a whole gamut of emotions - awe, magic, nerves, bewilderment and finally a longing.
7' - A penalty for the French. Zidane prevailed. I whooped!
19' - Corner by Pirlo. Magnificent header by Materazzi. I cursed.
110' - Zidane is shown the red card. Sent off the field for butting Materazzi in the chest. I stared, bewildered. Insane!! (Catch the video here)
And Italy won on penalties. Well done and well deserved to the Azzurri. I couldn't help grinning at the Italian juggernaut's euphoria. :)
Is it just me or does Horacio Elizondo have a thing for sending off the most integral player of a team? *WTH* First Rooney - which was spectacularly unfair! Bloody Ronaldo! And now Zidane - much as I hate to say it, it was the thing to be done.
All we can do is wonder why Zizou did what he did.
Zinedine Zidane had it all - greatness, magic, class, grace, genius - and none of that is going to be undermined because of one red card. It was a glittering career - and it will remain just that.

I just hope that the authoroties don't go lenient on the match fixing scandals just because they won the world cup.

It was all a part of a plan to frustrate Zidane. Imagine a player of the caliber and experience of zidane reacting to verbal abuses...it is a part of the game. That loser Materazzi might have just tickled the weak chord and that was it! France lost :((

i know!! :( the guardian claims he was called a terrorist or something - but even without that france was playing a pretty jittery game.

I was supporting france as well...
AS soon as the incident happenned...the only thing that occured to em was tht this sure was a sad way of ending a glorious career :(

Oh, it was the same referee? But anyway, Zidane deserved the red. And supposedly he's gonna talk about it after a few days. But he'll never be forgotten for his great career, not because if this one thing.
I didn't compare them. Just that materazzi...they used him as a tool :-) and he would be eliminated if he dares to open his mug :))
and hollywood is not bollywood...bad guys or perhaps the wittier of the 2 wins..saw chaos 2006??

its a movie about a bank robbery in which the cop incharge is a part of the plan and he finally walks out with the money. The funda is really awesome..they install a software in the bank server which transfers $1000 from the accounts of 10,000 richest in the list...so in this way no one suspects and they walk with a handsome amount
